Devude Ichhadu Vedi Okkati

Dear Music Lovers,
The song that I am playing for you today is probably one of my all time favorites of mine for countless reasons, the movie itself is such a success for "Iyyakunar Sikkaram" Dada Saheb Phalke award winner Director K. Balachander, who has introduced Actors like Kamal Hassan, Superstar Rajinikanth, Jayaprada, Jayasudha, Saritha, Prakash Raj, Nassar, Vivek, Sujatha to name a few, in fact he is the one who has introduced us the Oscar winner A.R. Rahman as music director too.

But, my real tribute goes to the song writer "Kavi Arasu" Kannadasan, meaning King of poets as he is called in Tamil Nadu who has penned the original lyrics in Tamil. Who has written around 5000 lyrics, 6000 poems and 232 books during his life span.

Tamil Version: Singer: K.J. Yesudas

Telugu Track: Lyricist in Telugu Aathreya does bring out the essence of Kanadasan's writing  in Telugu too.....

Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koi

Dear Music Lovers - "Collectors Song"
This is one of those songs which every Indian would wish to have in his collection purely for its lyrical and musical value. This song is much more close to my heart because Sanjeev Kumar happens to be one my most favorite actors in Hindi Cinema. I was told he was called Joker in the pack, because he could portray any character with elan be it a hero, villain, comedian, etc., in fact he has enacted 9 roles in "Naya Din Nai Raat" in 1974 it was a remake of "Navrathri" made in Tamil in 1964, wherein Sanjeev Kumar portrays the NAVARASA's as an actor.

This is one way of remembering Sanjeev Kumar by listening to this unforgettable song from the film "Aandhi", made in 1975 and Directed by Gulzar, Music by RD  Burman and Lyrics by Gulzar.

Kitna Badal Gaya Insaan

Dear Music Lovers

Dada Saheb Palke award winner Kavi Pradeep was a renowned poet, who is best known for his patriotic song "Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo" which he penned as a tribute to the soldiers who had died defending India during the Sino-Indian War.

I don't have to say anything on the lyrics & its meaning of the song that I am posting "Kitna Badal Gaya Insaan" it goes with any time past or present or future.

This song is from the movie NASTIK made in 1954 and directed by IS Johar, music by C. Ramchandra known as Chitalkar in Maharashtra and sung by none other than the Kavi "Pradeep" himself.

Ai Dil Mushkil Jeena Yahan

Dear Music Lovers,

I had grown listening to this song "Ai Dil Mushkil Jeena Yahan" since my childhood, but, today when I listen to the song again I just tried placing the lyrics in today's context and surprisingly nothing seems to have changed, except for the name from Bombay to Mumbai and the Up-hill struggle the people have to face today to have a decent living in India, in fact it has become much more difficult.

Its a tribute to the lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri and all the people behind this song, because  the lyrics in today's context too still lives on ....

This song is from the film CID produced by Guru Dutt in 1956 and composed by O.P. Nayyar and directed by Raj Khosla.

Note: I have seen that the number of views have gone up drastically but the comments are not forthcoming, may be because some friends have asked me they are not able to post there comments.

Mora Gora Ang Laile - Badhini

Dear Music Lovers

This song was the first song penned by Gulzar Saheb on the insistence of lyricist Shailendra who had written all the other songs for this film "Bandhini" made in 1963 and which had won  6 national awards and was the last film directed by the Legendary Bimal Roy who had given us Classics like Do Bigha Zameen, Devdas, Madhumati, Sujatha to name a few.

Why I like this song is not only for the Lyrics and the voice of Lata Ji, but purely the music by Sachin Dev Burman sounds Indian all the way.

O Chali Kopama - Telugu Classic

Dear Music Lovers,

This song is from the film Sri Krishna Tulabaram made in 1966 in Telugu and subsequently released in Tamil after a month and in Hindi after that. These are songs that you just cannot stop enjoying, because, be it for the lyrics by Samudrala, or Music by  Pendyala Nageshwara Rao or singing by the legendary Ghantasala or the portrayal of NTR as Lord Krishna... etc., I think when all this blends together as a team it becomes a timeless classic. Hope every one enjoys.....

Flavor of the day - Oriya song - India

Dear Music Lovers,
This song is sung by our "Gana Gandharvan KJ Yesudas" in Oriya, we would have listened to his most famous songs in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Marathi and other languages but I wish you listen to this melody from the Oriya Movie "Baata Abaata", and the music is by Bhuban - Hari and the song goes something like "Jibonore Hasa Name Niti Luha Piechhi", frankly I have no Idea what the lyrics mean but I love the song for the way Yesudas has sung it and I feel that you would also enjoy this Oriya flavor of the day.

Woh Bhooli Dastaan - Madan Mohan

Dear Music Lovers,

No Indian can forget this haunting melody from the maestro and my most favorite music director from India who I call "Triple M" Melody Madan Mohan and he used to say in a very humble way in Hindi

" के  हर फनकार  को  सुरीले, हिन्दुस्तानी और जस्बती होना ज़रूरी हैं क्यों की अगर उस में इंसानियत का जस्बा नहीं हैं तो वोह सहीं फनकार  नहीं हो सकता "

This song is a testimony of his feelings because I believe it has stood the test of time, rather should i say it will continue to stand in the years and decades to come......

Song of the day - Sonu Nigam - Mungaru Male

Dear Music Lovers,

Romantic number
We might have listened to many singers singing in different languages but I am sure every music lover identifies the distinctive voice and his voice becomes his nativity. But somehow this song from the movie from the movie "Mungaru Male" doesn't even give us the feel that he belongs to another part of India. I am sure most of the listeners will not identify the singer if not narrated as above as a Singer from North.

We all know Naushad Saheb as one of the all time great music composer for films in Hindi.

Naushad Ji was known to be a composer who used to compose pure Raaga based songs and this song is in Raaga Abheri and comes alive in the voice of Jesudas.

Hope you like this number too composed by Naushad Saheb &
rendered by Jesudas for the same film

Aasman Pe Hain Khuda - Phir Subah Hogi

Dear Music Lovers,

I like this song simply for its lyrics penned by Sahir Ludhianvi Ji and tuned by Khaiyyam Saheb. This movie "Phir Subah Hogi" was an adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky's immortal novel, Crime and Punishment. and was the 4th best movie of the year in 1958 just behind Madhumati, Chalti ka Naam Gadi and Yahudi.

This song comes alive in the voice of Mukesh.
