Inspired Composition from Illayaraja

Dear Music Lovers,

I was listening to the song "Inji Iddupazhagi" composed by Maestro Illayaraja, which was inspired by S.D. Burman's Yeh Dil Deewana Hain from "Ishk Par Zor Nahin".

Today happens to be my dear friend Dr. Ravishaker's birthday and he is a very great fan of Music and Dr. KJ Yesudas. So I wish to play this song on his birthday composed by Music Maestro Illayaraja and sung by Dr. KJ Yesudas from the Tamil Movie "Moondram Pirai" made in 1982 and directed by Balu Mahendra for which Kamal Hasan won the best actor filmfare award and Sridevi was the female lead in this film.

Endendho Ninnanu - Kannada Flavor

Dear Music Lovers,

The song that comes to my mind instantly when I want to post a Kannada flavor is "Endendho Ninnanu" from the film "Eradu Kansu", Music by Rajen Nagendra, though I was introduced to this song first in Kannada which I liked very much without understanding the lyrics in those days when I was in my teens, I started to enjoy it much more when I listened to it in Telugu (Ennneno Janmala bandham). The lyrics were written by my friend's father Dasaradhi in Telugu. I am posting both the versions of the song for your enjoyment. Hope you enjoy both the versions.

His Highness Abdullah - Malayalam

Dear Music Lovers,

This song is sung by Dr. K.J. Yesudas, from the Malayalam Movie "His Highness Abdullah" made in 1990. The music was composed by Raveendran Master who won the best Kerala film award for music for this film and M.G. Sreekumar won the best male play back singer for the song "Nadaroopini" for the same film but some how the song sung by Jesudas makes me listen to it time and again whenever I am reminded of Malayalam film-His Highness Abdullah. Hope you enjoy this Malayalam flavor too.....

Dear Music Lovers,

I wish to play a song or should I say a ghazal which is very close to my heart from the Movie "Masoom", the first directorial venture of the critically acclaimed Director Shekar Kapur. A director who I always thought could have given us much more than he has actually delivered by way of films like Elizabeth, Bandit Queen, Mr. India etc., The lyrics by Gulzar are as expected are to the demand of the story line and he went on to win the best lyricist for "Tuj Se Naraz nahin" from the same movie. The song is sung by Bhupender and Suresh Wadkar. Music was by R.D. Burman. hope you enjoy and have a good day.

Seethalu Singaram - Telugu Flavor

Dear Music Lovers,

Hope you enjoy this number from "Seetha Mahalakshmi" when Television was introduced in India and only a very few affordable people used to have it and I was one of them who used to frequent the houses of those few affordable's and one such song that I remember which is still etched in my memory is "Seetalau Singaram Ma lachi bangaram"sung by SPB and Suheela composed by KV Mahadevan. Hope you too have some memories like this....

Song of the Day - Raag Charukeshi

Dear Music Lovers,

An unforgettable melody by Lata Mangeshkar in raag Charukeshi composed by none other than my favorite music director Madan Mohan from the film "Dastak", this song brought him his first National Film Award for music direction. Sanjeev Kumar and Rehana Sultan also won the National Award for the best actor and actress for the film.

Extra Bite: Padmavibhushan Hirishikesh Mukherjee was the editor for this Black and White film made in 1970 and he won the national award for the film for editing, which went on to win 4 more film fare awards, which was written and directed by Padmashri Rajinder Singh Bedi, & lyrics was by Majrooh Sultanpuri.

As today being Maha Shivatatri the song which comes to my mind immediately is this song from the movie "Thiruvilayadal" in Tamil made in 1965 and sung by the "Queen of Indian Stage", Padmasri KB Sundarambal, she was noted for her Unique, Resonant & Golden Voice and I am sure you can notice the devotional fervor in her singing. Om Namah Shivaya, Om Namah Shivaya ....

Extra Bite: It is told that she has come up singing in trains for a living and went on to become the first film personality to enter the legislature assembly.

Dr. SP Balasubrahmanyam

Dear Music Lovers,

Dr. S.P. Balasubrahmanyam needs no introduction to the millions of music lovers across the world as he has sung more than 40,000 songs in several languages and still counting. He started his career singing for the film Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanaa (1966) in Telugu under his guru SP Kodandapani.

But I am playing the first 2 compositions he sang in Tamil which have gone on to become everlasting numbers..... Hope you guys enjoy. Happy Listening.

Yahoo Yahoo - Enjoy the weekend Shammi Style

Today being a weekend, I wish to play the song "Yahoo---Yahoo", Storm of love, from the movie "Junglee", made in 1961 and the first film to have been shot in color in the beautiful locales of Kashmir and Shimla.

This song and the movie went on to establish Shammi Kapoor as the youth icon of the times. This was Saira Banu's debut film.
